Welcome to
Kerryplay.ie the first specific play website for Kerry County Council.
This site has been designed to promote Kerry County Council’s play policy ‘Developing Play in Kerry’ and to provide easy access to information for community groups interested in developing outdoor, public playground areas.
Before you
start, you need to know that a public playground cannot be developed by simply
selecting equipment from a few catalogues; it requires careful planning, a lot
of consultation and an open mind. All this hard work however is rewarded in the
end by an outdoor facility that is safe and exciting for children to play in.
If
your community is interested in developing a playground, you must become
familiar with Kerry County Council’s Play Policy ‘Developing Play in Kerry’.
View this document here.
Once a project complies with the Play Policy, the community can apply to the
Local Authority for insurance cover. If they are successful, the playground area
will be operated directly under the control and management of the Local
Authority.
A
guideline booklet called ‘AG SPRAOI’ has also been produced to help community

groups develop playground areas. The booklet attempts to answer questions that
may arise during the development of a playground area. Click
here to view ‘Ag
Spraoi’.
Information which we think will help you and your community to develop a
playground is listed on the left of this screen.
We hope you will find the information of use and if you do decide to develop a playground best of luck with your project and remember to celebrate your efforts and your success at the opening of your community playground.
